Character: Molly Carter
Based on: Melou
Age: 18
Occupation: Student

Bio: Melou was the second son of Mordred and grandson of King Arthur. As such he had his fair share of issues.

He and his elder brother Melehan were raised to be soldiers, and were held rather at arm’s length by Mordred, who was extremely disturbed that he had managed to become a father and did not feel particularly well equipped for the responsibility. His concern proved valid when he managed to screw them both up.

Melehan decided to carry on his father’s war after Mordred was killed, and Melou dutifully went along with it. After his brother was killed by Sir Bors in single combat, he attempted to flee back to his mother’s home in Wales. He was hunted down and killed by Sir Lancelot. It was an undistinguished end for an undistinguished boy.

Molly, as far as she is concerned, is a perfectly normal high school student. She is interested in veterinary school (her father is a veterinarian and she loves watching him work), she thinks it would be cool to have a horse, she doesn’t read Twilight but thinks Robert Pattinson is made of hot. Her parents aren’t divorced, she has a little brother and sister who are both in middle school; she’s had two boyfriends but it never panned out, and when she’s at her friends’ houses they do Rock Band (she plays a mean bass guitar but sucks on drums).

Sometimes she has these weird dreams where she has an older brother and they’re fighting but she doesn’t want to fight. She doesn’t really get the dreams at all, like maybe they mean something because they are always the same and they happen kind of often, but it’s not the kind of thing you talk to the school guidance counsellor about. She’s taken a bunch of online dream interpretation quizzes but they don’t really come back with answers.

So life kind of goes on, in the meantime. Her English teacher is pretty cool, and she hates math; she’s in AP Biology and that rocks.

(But it’s still creepy how sometimes she wakes up with the feeling of weight still in her hands, the memory of fingers clasped around cool metal, and a sword she knew how to wield.)

Personality: Molly is fairly shy, but once she gets to know people she’s outgoing and talky. She could fairly be said to bounce. She is also prone to holding grudges if her wrath is incurred, which admittedly doesn’t happen very much.

She is terrified of drowning and refuses to go swimming. This isn’t a character flaw so much as an annoyance, especially during the summer, and has nothing to do with her previous incarnation. Something that does have to do with said incarnation is her utter inability to disagree with her father. It kind of weirds him out, to be honest. Sometimes she slips and calls him ‘sir’ with absolutely no precedence, and he just smiles and nods and pretends it isn’t creepy.

Sample Post: Molly lets out a soft grunt as she lifts the dog in her arms, its skinny body light against her chest, warm and scared. “Hey, pup. You’re okay. Shushuh. You’re okay.”

“Great goddamn, Mol, you picked up another one?” James rounds the corner at her, waving from a distance. His fluffy gold hair blows light in the February wind.

“I found him! He’s starving to death. He doesn’t have a collar,” she shouts back.

“Seriously? Seriously? You’re going to pull the Little Orphan Annie routine on me?”

“Shut up, man, he’s hungry, I’m going to get him something to eat.”

“I don’t think I can take you seriously any more.”

“You never take me seriously.”

“Yeah, but even less now. Negative seriously.”

“Liar. Look at him, he’s shaking.”

“I think I read that line in one of those fucking ‘dead dog’ books Mr. Madison hates so much.”

Molly scratches the dog’s ears. It’s a brindled brown and orangey, darkish. “I’m naming him Charlie. We have that spare crate in the garage where he can stay.”

“…Along with Sam and Jhudora and Fluffy and Snuggly and--“

“You’re making that up,” she says complacently. She knows he’s laughing, so she doesn’t really care what she says--with James it’s all right. Sometimes she get so scared of saying the wrong thing to someone she wants to be friends with that she just turns into an idiot, grinning too much without saying anything. James isn’t like that. She’s known him since she was five, he doesn’t bother her.

“You’re really nuts.”

“Ummhm. Shushuh, Charlie, you’re okay. --What are we supposed to read for Monday?”

“The Lottery.”

“Okay.”

“Walk you back home?”

“Yeah.” She buries her chin in Charlie’s soft, straggly fur and decides the reason it feels familiar is because she’s adopted so many dogs already (all the same, Charlie reminds her of a puppy she had once, and she’s never had a brindled dog before in her life).
